Fifth Grade

In 5th grade we use focused investigations to teach the Idaho Core Standards. Each year we have three major investigations: a literature-based Human Rights Investigation, a social studies-based 13 Colonies Investigation, and a science-based Mystery Investigation. During our focused investigations we use a cross-curricular approach to foster collaboration, creativity, and in-depth understanding of subject matter. We also explore these topics through dramatizations, visual art, music, dance, and technology. Along with our focused investigations, our curriculum includes Sitton Spelling, Greek and Latin root words, prefixes, and suffixes, Engage New York (ELA), TCI Social Studies, Scholastic News, TCI Science, Mystery Science, DMTI Math, and the novels Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan, Fever 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson, and the I Survived Series by Lauren Tarshis.
